  While I was CEO of Lands' End, we were approached by Justin Metcalf at Sterling who was interested in seeing us develop a European business. We hired him to write the launch plan, which he and his team proceeded to implement. The launch was quite successful. Sterling acted as our on the ground management in the UK during our early years, later handing over the operation to our own personnel. We used Sterling for two more years to take us into mainland Europe, testing Germany, France and Holland simultaneously. No one had done that before and again the test was very successful and indicated a strong business opportunity, particularly in Germany.

Later, at Cornerstone Brands, we have used Sterling on various international projects, including TravelSmith's UK launch, which went very well. Again they acted as our management until we hired our own team.
